Super Election Days in Europe, 22 - 25 May

This week, the more than 400 million eligible citizens of the EU will elect the 751 Members of European Parliament for the next term. The Netherlands and the United Kingdom will start voting on Thursday, 22 May, Ireland and the Czech Republic will follow on Friday, and Latvia, Malta and Slovakia on Saturday, before the majority of all EU countries will hold the European elections on Sunday, 25 May.
  

Yet, not only European candidates are put up for vote. In many EU Members States, also regional and municipal elections and in two cases also referenda will take place. Glancing at the list of elections held in the 28 EU Member States, we can say that there will be “European Super Election Days” in Europe this week.

UKRAINE: Presidencial elections

Outside of the EU borders, 25 May is also an election day. In Ukraine, people are called to cast their ballot to choose their future president of the Republic for the next 5 years. 21 candidates are running in this election: If none of them obtains more than 50% of the votes in the first round, the two mostly voted candidates will have to compete to be elected in a second round. This election is due to take place on 15 June 2014.
