In the spring of 2021, I had the pleasure of being part of the Democracy International team for three months. As the organisation has a very well-structured task division, my work has been largely focused on a project related to the Conference on the Future of Europe. I worked most closely with the European Programme Manager, Daniela Vancic, in organising online events on various topics covered by the Conference. Within that project, we cooperated with other members of the Citizens Take Over Europe coalition. I regularly participated in coalition meetings and even had the opportunity to take part in a joint action in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on the first plenary session of the Conference. My other tasks included promoting the activities of the organisation and the European Citizens' Initiative on social media channels. 

Despite working remotely due to pandemic restrictions, daily team meetings, intern email account and phone enabled easy and efficient communication within the team. In Democracy International there is no difference between interns and regular employees. The interns were shown great confidence and were given independence in contributing to the work of the organisation. During my three months of internship, I learned a lot about direct democracy and the various tools for achieving it, and I met many activists who are committed to involving citizens in democratic processes. For anyone passioned about direct democracy, an internship in Democracy International is a great way to learn and connect with like-minded people.
