From 14 to 17 May 2015 more than 600 people are gathering in Tunis on the occasion of the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy and to disccuss the question of how Tunisia and the countries of the Arab Spring can be democratised further through decentralisation. The participants come from as diverse countries as Afghanistan, Austria, Gambia, Canada, Morocco,  Saudi Arabia or the Netherlands.

On the Tunisian side, the world's biggest conference is organised by the Tunisian trade union UGTT and the University of Carthage. Democracy International belongs to the main organisers. Board members Bruno Kaufmann and Joe Mathews are the Global Forum's Co-Presidents.
