Sophie on Democracy:

“In the longer term, we can imagine that people would use their knowledge about the determinants of well-being to pressure governments to enact policies that maximise their own well-being. This might have another happiness benefit: countries with institutions that facilitate more individual involvement in politics tend to have happier citizens.”

(Bruno S. Frey and Alois Stutzer, Happiness and Economics: How the Economy and Institutions Affect Human Well-being, 2002.)
