The Power of Youth

14-04-2023

While Democracy International is losing its most senior colleague Klaus Hofmann, as an association we’re also happy to see our youth programme growing and growing. After being awarded the third prize of the European Parliament’s prestigious Charlemagne Youth Prize, we’re offering more projects for young Europeans and citizens of the world than ever. Let’s take a look!

- Tunisia's democracy is suffering severe setbacks.

That’s why, together with our Tunisian partner organisation Intersection Association for Rights and Freedoms, we’re launching the project "Tunisia Democracy Connectors" on 15 April 2023. For six months four young professionals from Tunisia and Germany will campaign for democracy, human rights, LGBTIQ* rights and women's rights by organising workshops, discussions and trainings on site in Tunisia and online. And they will share the motivating and challenging stories of democracy activists around the world on Democracy International’s platform International Democracy Community.

Tunisia Democracy Connectors is realised as part of the qualification programme ASA and with funds from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

- Ukrainian Vibes: Three time’s a lucky charm - Which is why we’re happy to announce the third edition of our Ukrainian Vibes project!

Same as Tunisia Democracy Connectors, Ukrainian Vibes is again realised as part of the six-month qualification programme ASA and starting on 15 April. To keep looking for ideas for a European future that includes Ukraine, and raise attention for the current situation Ukrainians are facing, our young project managers will gather people under the Europe Dome in the Eastern-German province of Saxony. And they’ll bring the democracy community together online.

Let’s give Stefaniya, Carla, and Anastasiia a warm welcome!

- 28 European countries, 400+ CSO partners, 28 national coordinators, the Elections to the European Parliament 2024, and 8 Young European Changemakers per country. That’s the essence of our new project Youth Empowerment for Universal Franchise. The project is a cooperation of the Charlemagne Youth Prize Alumni Network of which Democracy International is a co-founding member and funded by the European Parliament.

In each EU country and the UK, up to eight young Changemakers will receive a training in Aachen, Germany on the European elections and project management from 11-13 May. With the new knowledge, the Changemakers will then organise three short on- or offline workshops on the European elections. These take place in their communities until the European elections in May/June 2024 and with practical support from Democracy International.
