French-German Dialogue

New ways of political participation for EU citizens

The French-German-Dialogue will take place in Saarland, South West Germany, from 13- 16 September 2014. The event will offer a forum for exchange of information and experience for 30 civil society activists, who deal with cross-border issues at different levels. The French-German-Dialogue is organised by the European Academy of Otzenhausen.

Critical voices are growing louder in all EU member states: eurosceptical and right-wing populist parties will be represented more strongly than ever before in the European Parliament. Even if the average turnout at the European parliament elections remained unchanged – albeit at a low level -, it fell to an all-time low in Eastern countries and in particular in the 18 – 30 age group. The European elections were once again an opportunity to express general dissatisfaction with “Brussels” and "the politicians" instead of a vote on the future orientation of common EU policies.

The objective of the seminar is to systematize challenges and to propose possible solutions on the basis of practical experience, which could result in joint projects. Challenges, concrete approaches to solutions and projects will be presented at a public event at the end of the three-day workshop and critically discussed at a round table with scientists, decision-makers and the general public.
