The website follows a new concept. It primarily features democracy activists and their campaigns, and it tells about their fight for more direct democracy in their countries, at local level and in the world. The aim is to help people to connect and to network with each other, to exchange information about best practice and on how to build a democracy organisation.
The new approach closely ties in with Democracy International’s mission: democracy activists are to help each other, to learn from each other and to grow together in order to realise more direct democracy at all political levels. Democracy International conceptualised the site with the help of Kai Fischer, a leading expert on fundraising and non-profit communication in Germany. The new website is run with Drupal, an emerging open source Content Management System that is more and more used by political organisations and government sites including The White House in the United States.
We thank Kai Fischer for his advice, Gerhard Oels who programmed the site and Fabian Sachs for bringing it online. Also a big thank you go to Zsanett Kocsó, Oscár Fernandez-Rodriguez and everybody else who helped with the arduous exercise of transferring the contents from the old website to the one now in use.
Please contact our spokesperson Cora Pfafferott if you have any ideas for content, if you would like to tell about your campaign or if you can volunteer to translate our press releases and newsletter into your mother tongue.
We build on your support as our website lives from the actions and campaigns by the people who commit to realising more democracy in the world. Enjoy browsing our new website!
