Gabriel is a French student doing a master’s degree in political sciences. He interned at Democracy International for a duration of 6 months.

For 6 months, I had the incredible opportunity to work as the European Programme Intern at Democracy International. As a student in Political Sciences I was eager to find an internship abroad, and during my research, I discovered Democracy International, which seemed to align perfectly with my goals. I packed my bags and headed to Cologne for a six-month adventure.

From my first day, I felt a genuine sense of belonging within the team. Daniela Vancic warmly welcomed me and guided me through everything I needed to know at DI. This initial introduction proved crucial, as it allowed me to quickly familiarise myself with the organisation and understand the underlying purposes of my missions.

My primary focus during the internship was the European Citizens’ Initiative. I was responsible for preparing, implementing, and reporting on consultations involving various stakeholders. At DI, the ability to multitask and work on different projects is key and was from the start one of my favourite aspects of the job. Other tasks were entrusted to me regarding writing and translating articles, participating in the organisation of different event, I also had the opportunity to participate in different event in Germany and abroad.

Moreover, I felt a deep sense of trust in my capabilities and in the tasks given to me, which provided me with the opportunity to contribute my knowledge and ideas fully .

Democracy International offers an exceptional work environment with a perfect balance of flexibility and teamwork. As a student, I always felt comfortable seeking help or feedback on my various tasks. This internship has played a vital role in my growth. The formative experience enabled me to translate my theoretical knowledge into practical competencies. After six months, I now feel more confident in my professional English skills and in my overall work performance.

I am incredibly grateful to the entire team for their support and guidance during my internship, and I hope to have the opportunity to see you again soon.

While I could elaborate further on why my experience was extraordinary, I believe the best course of action is for you to give it a try and create your own remarkable journey.
