Citizens' Assembly Convention Citoyenne pour le Climat

With the Citizens’ Convention on Climate, France launched a unique democratic experiment: 150 randomly selected citizens deliberated measures to reduce France’s greenhouse gas emissions by

40%. They came up with 150 proposals that were then handed over to the French Parliament. The Convention also called for a referendum on several questions, which will likely take place next year.

Democracy International assisted the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, the organiser, with its English-language communications.
