The journey ahead of us:

Vienna, Austria, from 1 - 3 April 2014

We will visit the UN buildings, where we will listen to a presentation on democratising the United Nations and the question if referenda possibly could be held at the global level. Also, we will demonstrate for a more democratic EU and voice our demands for an EU convention and referenda throughout Europe.

Austria is currently struggling do develop a system of direct democracy at national level. A panel discussion on direct democracy in Austria is to take place with Austria's politicians in the national parliament. Also, a debate is scheduled on direct democracy in the cities of Vienna, Zurich and Munich. Further, we do not want to neglect the touristic aspect of our stay since Vienna is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Below you can download the preliminary agenda of our stay in Vienna.

A speed boat connects Bratislava and Vienna with each other. In the evening of 3 April we will travel to Bratislava by boat.

Bratislava, Slovakia, from 4 – 6 April 2014

Our democracy friends around Paul Pirovits, Beata Novomeska and Ras'to Cancov will welcome us in Slovakia’s historic and picturesque capital.  They will help us hosting a big democracy conference: Maroš Šefčovič, EU Commissioner in charge of the European Citizens' Intiative, will deliver a key note speech (tbc). Also, one month ahead of the elections to the European Parliament, our campaign for a more democratic EU will form a key element of the conference. For Democracy International's members we will hold the general assembly, which takes place every three years.

Budapest, Hungary, from 6 – 9 April 2014

Just a few kilometres closer to Danube's mouth lies Budapest, the third capital we will visit during our rally. We intend to investigate the judicial state of Hungary, whose separation of powers got into huge difficulties under prime minister Victor Orban. The protection of Roma and their participation in political decision-making will be another focus of our stay in Budapest.
