Dane worked on six continents with elected officials, activists, NGO´s and government entities including the UN, the United States Department of State and the International Republican Institute on governance issues. He has been a political appointee in President George H. W. Bush´s administration and served as the Political Director of the Humane Society of the United States and the Humane Society Legislative Fund. He, furthermore, was the National Field Director for US Term Limits and worked on five presidential campaigns as well as over 60 ballot campaigns, among others. He is the founder of The Elephant Project and generally very engaged in animal welfare issues.

Moreover, he authored and edited numerous articles and books on direct democracy and provided commentary on governance issues to the international media.
