During her internship at Democracy International, Josephine was a bachelor student at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. She studied Political Science, Sociology and English Studies with a research focus on Foreign Policy and Democracy Research in International Relations.

From November 2020 until end of January 2021, I had the opportunity to intern at Democracy International (DI). Due to COVID-19 restrictions my internship started remotely out of my home office. However, the unusual situation was no disadvantage because from the first day on I was actively involved in the daily meetings which were held every morning. During the three month with DI I helped organizing the project European Public Sphere - Europe 2.0. Therefore I worked closely with a fellow intern and prepared as well as held 10 online citizens’ consultations on the future Europe. My other main task was managing DI's social media channels. Besides that I had the chance to work on many other tasks which accure in the daily work of an NGO. This included for example writing articles for DI's website or creating blogposts for the European Public Sphere website.

The diversity of tasks was the perfect experience for me. As the whole team is very friendly and helpful, there was never a time I could not ask a question or reach out for help. I was given more responsibility over time which gave me the opportunity to work independently and bring in my own thoughts and ideas.
Despite working from home, the internship at DI gave me a glimpse inside the work of an NGO. But what has been even more valuable for me, was the wonderful experience working together with the DI team. Everyone is very welcoming and I was included in the team right from day one. I am very thankful for all I have learned during my time as an intern at Democracy International.
