Day of Action: Frankfurt, Germany

Signature gathering ...

All children in Germany know it: the 6 of December is an extremely important day: Nikolaus! For the activists of democracy international, as well as for numerous Frankfurters shopping and walking in the Leiziger Straße it was important indeed, not only because of Santa Claus...

We spent a busy and intense day talking to people and collecting signatures for an appeal calling the Bundestag to hold a constitutional referendum in Germany.

Four of us were fully occupied for about three hours. In spite of the first attempts of winter, many pedestrians enjoyed the sunny weather and stopped eagerly to discuss the issue of the referendum. A few of them were already sure: "Referendum? Of course, it's the only way!" However, the majority were willing to discuss, share with us their opinions and doubts, which, in a couple of cases, developed into an exciting debate, for instance with a group of committed law students.

We collected about fifty signatures and distributed twice as much of our flyers and postcards. We talked to and succeeded in convincing several Frankfurters who left us also their telephone numbers expressing the wish to receive further info and support our activity.

Thus, we consider the action successful and we hope that, apart of having good fun, we managed to create some positive approach to our idea and awareness of the problem of referendum among the residents of Frankfurt. It was a good Santa Clause day!
