Day of Action: Amsterdam, the NetherlandsReport
In Amsterdam, on the Dam square in front of the Royal Palace, a group of Dutch referendum activists from the Europese Referendum Campagne gathered to meet the press and to distribute flyers among the general public.
We showed a map of Europe that indicated which countries will hold a referendum and in which countries it is still undecided. Our message was: 'Let every European decide about the constitution.' Therefore, we had banners in all the languages of the European Union (candidate) countries that said 'I want to vote on Europe!' We distributed flyers that explained why referenda on the constitution should be hold.
We had discussions mostly with tourists. People told us that they felt a lot of decisions on Europe were made against the will of the citizens; this time they would like to have a say on it. A local radio station made a report about the event.
