Netherlands: Campaign launched

Netherlands: Activities for a European Citizens Initiative launched. Already more than 1.000 signatures have been gathered

Amsterdam, 1. September 2006: Dressed in Campagne voor Europees Burgerinitiatief (Campaign for a European Citizens Initiative) T-shirts, volunteers in Amsterdam and in 7 other cities gathered signatures, marking a successful launch of the European Citizens Initiative in the Netherlands.

Arjen Nijeboer, member of the Democracy International cooperation team and actress Victoria Koblenko, campaign ambassador, gave 5 interviews in national radio stations: NOS Radio 1 (the main news radio), VARA Ontbijtradio, NCRV

radio and BNR Nieuws Radio (two interviews).

*NRC Handelsbald*, a leading Dutch newspaper, provided further publicity for the campaign, with a lengthy article, including photographs.

The campaign also received regional and local news coverage

as a result of the local signature gathering.

After three weeks, approximately 1.100 Dutch citizens have signed the appeal of the Campagne voor Europees Burgerinitiatief.
